MAYPORT USO NO DOUGH DINNER – TONIGHT
Monday, May 20th, from 5:00PM-7:00PM the Mayport USO Center will host a “No Dough Dinner”. This is free for Active Duty Service Members and their immediate families. The wonderful staff and volunteers will serve sub sandwiches, chips, salad, and dessert. THANK YOU FRA 290!
BARBECUE FOR THE TROOPS - MULLIGANS PUB HILTON GARDEN INN
Stop by the Mulligans Pub at the Hilton Garden Inn-Jacksonville/Ponte Vedra located at 43 PGA Tour Blvd., Ponte Vedra Beach on Monday, May 27th at 2:00PM for a barbecue to support the troops. The barbecue is $5.00 for active duty military and dependents with ID and $15 for civilians. The menu includes Caja-China roasted pig, corn on the cob, coleslaw, potato salad, and apple pie.
ADVENTURE LANDING NIGHT- WRISTBANDS ON SALE TODAY
The annual USO night at Adventure Landing (Jacksonville Beach) will be held on Wednesday, June 12th from 6:00-11:00pm. Wristbands for our annual fun evening at Adventure Landing will go on sale Today beginning at NOON. Wristbands will be on sale for $2.00 each and will be available for purchase by ACTIVE DUTY and families only (Guard and Reserves on active orders eligible). They will be on sale at your Mayport USO, NAS Jax USO and a limited number at Kings Bay ITT. Save the date for this annual sold out event!
THE RASCALS IN CONCERT- TICKET DRAWING
For the first time in forty years, “The Rascals” are back together. Want to see The Rascals “Once Upon a Dream” concert May 31st at the Times Union Center Moran Theater? Your Greater Jacksonville Area USO is conducting a drawing for two pairs of tickets. The drawing is open to Active Duty (including those on active duty orders) only. The deadline to enter is Wednesday, May 22nd. To enter, email drawing@usojax.com with the following information: LAST NAME, FIRST, MI, COMMAND, EMAIL ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER.
MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART JACKSONVILLE-BLUE STAR MUSEUM PARTICIPANT
The Museum of Contemporary Art in Jacksonville, located on 333 North Laura Street, will be participating in the national “Blue Star Museum Program” this summer whereby it offers FREE ADMISSION to Active Duty Military members and families from Memorial Day (May 27th) to Labor Day (September 2nd). HARRIS TEETER “SUPPORT OUR TROOPS” DRIVE
Harris Teeter, 4800 First Coast Highway, Fernandina Beach will be holding a donation card campaign from May 1 - May 31, 2013, giving customers the opportunity to donate $1.00, $3.00, or $5.00 to their Greater Jacksonville Area USO by way of a tear sheet at the cash register. Funds raised will help your Greater Jacksonville Area USO continue our support of our area military and families. This is the second year in a row Harris Teeter has supported our troops in this way and we hope to make 2013 an even greater success! If you live within a reasonable distance from Harris Teeter in Fernandina Beach, feel free to stop in, shop, and help support our local troops and families.
JACKSONVILLE SUNS 2013 BASEBALL SEASON – OPEN GAMES
Once again, the Jacksonville Suns AA Baseball Organization (Florida Marlins Affiliate) has teamed with your Greater Jacksonville Area USO for the 2013 season. We have purchased 18 tickets (1st Base Side, Lower Level) for each home game during this year’s 70-game season. The intent of these free tickets is for use as a command social, evenly spread out throughout all ranks, with the hope of fostering unity and morale.
THE FOLLOWING DATES DURING MAY AND JUNE ARE STILL AVAILABLE: May 26th, June, 4th, 16th, 23rd and 30th.
FAQ’S
Can anyone request these tickets?
NO only the CO/OIC, XO and CMC/SEA only by email lquinn@usojax.com or pam@usojax.com to request command blocks. These are not for individuals, only for commands.
Can a command request only a few of the tickets?
NO there are 18 tickets for each game that are handed out to the command that requested the tickets. You must take all 18 tickets.
How far in advance can we request a game?
As soon as possible. We are receiving requests daily so the sooner you can get your request in the better.
Is there a cost for these tickets?
NO they are FREE for commands; we are working hard for you!
GREATER JAX AREA USO MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT AT THE JAX ZOO - RESCHEDULED
Due to inclement weather Friday, May 3rd, Military Appreciation Night at the Jacksonville Zoo has been rescheduled to July 26th, 2013 from 6:00-9:00pm.
JAXEX RUNWAY 5K - JUNE 8th
The Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA) will host its Inaugural “JAXEX RUNWAY 5K” at Jacksonville Executive at Craig Airport (JAXEX) on Saturday, June 8. Net proceeds will benefit The Greater Jacksonville Area USO. The event will feature a 5K run beginning at 7:30 a.m. and a one-mile “Fun Run” at 8:30 a.m. A portion of both race courses will include the airport runway at JAXEX (which will be closed to air traffic during the event). To register, visit www.jaxexrunway5k.com. Register before June 1 for the early bird entry fee of $20 for the 5K and $15 for the “Fun Run.” The 5K registration fee will increase to $30 the day of the race. Space is limited.
MILITARY WIVES VENDOR SHOW - MAYPORT USO
Mark your calendars. The Mayport USO is hosting another great Military Wives Vendor Show. The vendor show is open to the public and will be held Saturday, August 3rd, from 9:00AM-3:00PM. Check out the variety of vendors and support your local military wives small businesses. There will be raffles and for available for purchase. Interested in having your own booth at the vendor show? TRI-COUNTY ROLLING MILITIA-CORRECTION
Free admission to the Tri-County Rolling Militia roller derby bouts is for active duty service members and children ten years of age and younger. For family, or friends without a valid military ID, the ticket price is $10 in advance, or $12 at the door; Bouts are held at the Skate Station Funworks’ .Doors open on bout days at 5:30pm, and bouts begin at 6:00pm.
